What are Microns?

A question we get asked repeatedly, what is the difference between my fridge filter and a Reverse Osmosis System (RO System)? Short answer – night and day! A fridge filter is good. It will stop some of the unwanted elements in your water. But, if your goal is to have completely safe bottled water quality water for your family, investing in an RO system is a must.

One word, Microns! They are everywhere, and they are what differentiate your fridge filter from an RO system. A fridge filter will filter at about 10 microns, an RO system filters at .0002 microns. Night and day!

But what are microns?

The boring technical stuff: A micron (μm) is a unit of measurement that stands for one micrometer or one-millionth of a meter. 1 micron is equal to 0.00004 inches or .0001 cm, and it’s often used to define the size of water contaminants.

Simply Put: A micron is a measurement of size, and in water filtration, we used micron sizes to help stop unwanted elements in your water.

Let’s Visualize it!

Pretty interesting, right! So, while your fridge filter is good, you can do much better with an RO System.

The good news, technology has come a long way, and having your RO system in your home is very obtainable. They are not too expensive, easy to maintain, and will eliminate the need to buy bottled water.

QWET has an affordable RO system that can be installed at your kitchen sink. Check out our RO System HERE.
