2020 Recap: Improving Water Quality in East Texas

As 2020 ends, we are looking back at our top projects where East Texans encountered some serious water problems. These 3 projects allowed our team the opportunity to make a big difference in the quality of water for our customers.

Severe Bacteria in Van, Texas

Van called with a complaint of “bubbling water” in the back of their toilets. We immediately knew they had a serious bacteria problem. When a well receives a positive bacteria test, shocking your well with chlorine is the first step to clean-up. We did a full house shock treatment using commercial grade sodium chloride, and to help ensure this problem would not happen again, we installed a chemical injection system at their wellhead. This allows us to add a little bit of chlorine into their water supply, which helps block bacteria from entering their house. We also added a reverse osmosis system in their kitchen that will always provide clean, safe drinking water. We look forward to checking in with them in 2021 to run their yearly bacteria test.

Extreme Iron in DeBerry, Texas

DeBerry called with a case of extreme iron in their water. They were having orange water running from their tap, replacing their appliances yearly, and cleaning toilets, sinks, and bathtubs daily. To say this family was frustrated was an understatement. Iron runs rampant through East Texas water, and when it is over 10 parts per million (ppm) - sophisticated equipment, maintenance, and set expectations need to be outlined. Our team created a system that would reduce the amount of iron entering their house and installed a reverse osmosis system at their kitchen sink, providing clean and safe drinking water. We have also added a service plan, visiting them every 6 months to ensure their equipment is properly working. This family is now able to enjoy their house and drink their water, knowing it is safe.

Smelly Water in Murchison, Texas

Murchison called with a horrible smell coming from their water. This is a common problem in East Texas, and many times a simple fix. This family was new to well ownership and was overwhelmed with this smelly problem. Our team installed a sulfur removal system and provided them with some best practices for maintaining their water well. Their new system requires little maintenance and should provide smell free water for many, many years.
